Unless you're paying a subscription to a game, I think it's unrealistic for players to expect 'forever updates' for most games in their library. I do not understand why people just automatically treat a game with no recent updates like it's some kind of trash or somehow less valuable when it is clearly playable/finishable (obviously minus any serious bugs) and otherwise feature complete. Obviously, there's a difference between active development and maintenance updates for things like more serious bugfixes. I see people call a game 'dead' and to me that implies that it has been somehow 'unfinished'. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a game that has reached the end of active development. Some of the favorite titles in my Steam library will never have another update ever again (and haven't already for 5-10 years). I do not understand this mindset when it comes to modern gaming? Originally posted by PierrotTheFool:Also it looks like SU is gonna be dead now, well no updates at least so mind over matter it is Still the point stands its sus just by the looks, i cant get over the fact of their similarities I cant say its a ripoff then every game would be a ripofff of another game. :sphere: dont get me wrong il deffinetly buy it and all but when i see its just cmon, like i get ya its different. I just wanna klei to notice this and make something unique. :sphere: I really hope that klei can make some awesome game. But, then again, how is SU not a ripoff of games like XCOM, Fallout Shelter, or Dungeon keeper in that respect? What about SimTower? Originally posted by Kyrros:I can see where it might be seen as such, from a visual standpoint. so at least we can be comforted that there's more of a chance that there will be unique gameplay decisions made and that Klei would probably not want to wade into potential IP lawsuits if they can help it. Though, at least the devs know they're not gonna slip a fast one under the players noses at this point (not that I'm assuming they were trying to at all - merely an observation)Īlso, I am not familiar with the studio making the game, but the Publisher is Klei (the folks from Don't Starve and a few other big games over the years). Until we get a better idea what other mechanics will be present in the game, it will be hard to judge what is copypasta versus making use of a common theme (tower/base building sim) The nuts and bolts of why and how the decisions you make change the flow of the game as you go are what differentiate each of those games from one another. But, then again, how is SU not a ripoff of games like XCOM, Fallout Shelter, or Dungeon keeper in that respect? What about SimTower?īuilding a tower (or base) is building a tower (or base). I can see where it might be seen as such, from a visual standpoint. that is because the developers did something unique when they developed their games. but in the end there is a big difference between starcraft or age of empires. these are all core concepts of an rts game. I can describe a game game which you see from above where you gather resources, build a base and than build an army to attack the enemy with. so rooms are not instantly build like they are in spellcaster university. The trailer appears to shows someone building a room with magic. so its is not literally a copy of spellcaster university.Ģ differences which i can see in the trailer: it will all depend on what the developers do with it to make the game unique. Which way it will swing, it looks very similar, so it could certainly end up being just a copy with fancy graphics but with enough work it could turn out to be a game inspired by spellcaster university but being its own take on this type of game. I would say though that right now we do not have enough information on the game to judge In the end there is a difference between something being a copy and something being inspired by something else.
